UHAMIAJI team overpowered Majumba Sita Boys with 33-20 goal victory in the buildup game held at the National Indoor stadium in the city on Wednesday evening.
The friendly build up match was staged to prepare the team for the First Division Netball league to be held next week.
Organised by Netball governing body (CHANETA) the annual league is scheduled to start from September 13 to 26 this year in Arusha.
Defending champions Uhamiaji have been in intensive training for several weeks now and the yesterday match was aimed to test skills of their players against the men’s team.
The winners started the first quarter very strongly and managed to post 7-2 lead at the end of it. They went on to claim 13-8 goal lead after the interval before finishing their opponents with 33-20 goal victory at the final whistle.
Majumba Sita Boys’ captain, Libeli Jackson told the ‘Daily News’ that they were thrilled to be given a chance to play and test skills with the tough Uhamiaji team.
“It was a tough game, the ladies are well prepared, we always welcome chance like this to help other team prior to national level event. Arusha event is for ladies team only, but the match also helped to build our team,” he said.
Jackson added that Uhamiaji is good team hence they deserve to be national champions and I predict them to defend well their title this year.
Uhamiaji team manager Zainab Mohamed said they were happy to win and they will use a few remaining days to rectify some mistakes.
“We are just doing fine so far, we choose to test against men’s team as we want to enhance the stamina of our players. That was among the areas that need improvement before the tournament starts,” said Zainab.
