DMSC brings Maji Poa Rally to Kigamboni

KIGAMBONI area in Dar es Salaam will host the sixth round of this year’s National Rally Championship (NRC) late this month, it was confirmed yesterday.

The national level rally returns to Kigamboni after a decade as the last event staged there was in 2006, almost eleven years ago. The event’s organisers, Dar es Salaam Motor Sports Club (DMSC) confirmed that the sixth round is christened Maji Poa Rally and will be held on September 28 in Dar es Salaam.

The club’s Chairman, Salim Haji Bullet informed the ‘Daily News’ yesterday that the choice of Kigamboni aimed at giving residents of the area real excitement of the wheeling business. “Motor rally is one of the best entertaining outdoor sports, therefore, hope sport’s fans and residents of Kigamboni will enjoy watching drivers in spectacular actions in the area’s environs,” said Haji.

Haji said until late yesterday, the host DMSC had listed four entries that include himself, the former chairman Erfaan Aladin (Madebe), Faisal Nayani and Arif Haji.

But, according to Haji, the organisers hope to see all top seeded drivers participate in Maji Poa as it serves as the penultimate stage of the National Rally Championship series.

Top seeded drivers include Gerald Miller who is at the race helm, his closest challengers, Dharam Pandya, Samir Nahdi Shanto and Randeep Birdi. From Arusha, DMSC official hopes to list Gurpal Sandhu and Jayant Shah apart from Miller.

Iringa-based Ahmed Huwel, who has also joined the list of title favourites, will parade his ultra-modern Ford Fiesta after clinching Oryx Rally title in Bagamoyo last month. After clinching the runner up position in the continental level rally last month, Harrinder Deere will be trying to prove to doubters he is classy driver and a force to reckon with in motorsports.

After Maji Poa Rally, Mororogo will host the final round of the NRC in November, this year, the event which will decide who deserves the best driver’s crown of the 2017 season.
